The Vancouver Island Social Innovation Zone (VISIZ) is happy to announce the first ever social innovation "Pitch It!" event - a mini Dragon's Den style competition opening the floor for students to present their awesome ideas on ventures that give back. Open to students from Royal Roads University, Camosun College, and the University of Victoria, "Pitch It!" applications are available to students until the 2nd of November through the VISIZ website (http://visocialinnovation.ca), and we want everyone to join in!

"Pitch It!" encourages students to bring forward entrepreneurial ideas, innovations, or enterprise concepts that give back to communities by working towards solving social or environmental issues - impact ideas focused on sustainability. Selected applicants will present a 90 second pitch before judges on November 5th while networking and learning from experienced professors, managers, business owners, and industry experts in social innovation, finance, entrepreneurship and enterprise. Excelling pitches run the chance to win one of ten $300 prizes in micro-seed funding for their idea, and recognition with VISIZ and its partners (and networks) for amazing potential.

Applications involve a 1,200 word (max limit) long form questionnaire, due at day end of November 1st. Our magic event team will sort through and notify selected candidates on pitch preparations. We'll be hosting the event on Thursday, November 5th from 5:30-8:30PM at Fort Tectoria (777 Fort Street), located in the heart of downtown. Fort Tectoria is a coworking space and startup incubator- one of the many spots aimed at rejuvenating Victoria as a tech hub in Canada (and possibly also one of the coolest event spaces we could have landed!).

VISIZ is partnered with Victoria's largest Post Secondary Institutitions -Camosun College, UVic and RRU- along with community partners like Vancity, seCatalyst, Community Social Planning Council, and Victoria Native Friendship Centre. Our goal at the Zone (that's what us cool kids call it) is to incubate and support ideas that can push Vancouver Island towards a better social ecosystem, a platform aimed at always giving back.
